I am trying to recreate this style of video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1awlyLFDE14

My goal is to have two different outputs: one is just me full-screen, and another is a PowerPoint with me in a circle in the corner as an overlay.
Through tutorials, I've figured out how to make a rectangular picture-in-picture overlay, but I don't know how to make it circular.

I am also struggling to have smooth transitions between the two: I can switch from PPT to video, but the overlay of my video remains on the screen for a moment until I remove it. Then when I switch back to the PPT, I have to click to bring the overlay back again, so it isn't smooth.

I've been going through a bunch of tutorials and playing around with trial and error, but I've sunk several hours into this already and would love some help on this. Thanks!

Use layers instead of overlays to make up a one input desing

for the circle there are various options:
a key/fill
a virtual set type with UV map cut into a circle and ppt as background layer
...
