Found this years old post.

"vMix itself supports up to 8-bit 4:2:2 from most capture cards and then upscales this to 32-bit floating point 4:4:4 for all video processing
which helps a lot with things like chroma key processing."

Is this still the case with vMix 26?

If, then please enable support for true 10 bit input and output.

Now enormous amount of color information is thrown out of the window and only 8 bit video is recorded to 10 bit capable recorders.

This feature is essential!

vMix uses only 8 bit video and only 8 bit video is recorded to files and 10 bit capable recorders!

Now -still- with vMix 26 enormous amount of valuable color information is not used at all which would be very important when the footage is (post) processed!

Please add 10 bit support for input and output to vMix 27!

True 10 bit support is a must in a professional video software!

Preview of vMix 27 released: Still no signs it would have 10 bit support in it....?

With 10-bit color depth pixels can show up to 1024 variations of brightness, in other words 1.07 BILLION possible colors!!

Now vMix 27 beta (and eralier releases) uses still only 8 bit and only 256 variations of brightness is available and preserved!

So, please start adding 10 bit support to vMix ASAP!

Hi,

Please avoid replying to the same feature request to try and boost it, it is unfair to other features.

As to the question of 10bit, it might help your case if you could explain a real world scenario for live video.
(There are certainly benefits to 10bit video in the post production world for grading etc, but these rarely translate into significant quality benefits for live or streaming video)

For example provide some screenshots demonstrating where a video signal you are using is significantly lower in quality due to 8bit vs 10bit.

10bit generally requires double the processing power of 8bit and would require us to build a separate pipeline to support it.
That is no easy feat and would represent the single largest change to the vMix code ever!

It is also worth noting that hardly any streaming providers support greater than 8bit right now (with the exception of perhaps YouTube, but even then only in certain cases where the end user supports HDR)

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin.

It's not all about live streaming!

Many shows may also be done "flat" color and the final color grading and editing is done in post and the files must be 10 bit!

Also producers usually wants the final "master" file be in the best available format for fine tunining and archiving.

10 bit has been on the way to main stream more than 10 years now and that YouTube link I provided was already over 5 years old!

vMix should give the user the choice to be able to use 10 bit workflow!

Kind regards,
Jan
