Hi everybody,
From time to time this has come up under various threads. Martin has given recommendations/advice how to minimize. I have debated with our vMix supplier in Europe.
And, to be honest, I gave up trying - we were unable to achieve anything consistently lower than 4 PAL frames (6 fully loaded). As a result - I made the decision only to ever use the unit as a broadcaster - never as an Imag device, much as I wanted to.
Recently, I have witnessed two events done by other companies where the perceptible latency was extreme. One event I recorded on my phone and looked at it in the office on an editor, where I found a latency of 6 - 7 frames. This one was being mixed on a monster Tricaster, which I'm aware has latency - but I thought the bigger ones had 1 frame ?
!!
So - again - I ask the question "What exactly IS acceptable Imag Latency ??" We always worked in the 3 frame domain - 4 depending on situation, but 6 ?? Never ....
But maybe we're being unrealistic (?!)
Interested in comments.
Cheers,
Pete
