we have some connection issues with a firewire camera, it has a wonky connection and sometimes disconnects. Not a big problem, but when it disconnects, the shortcuts also change.

We made a shortcut on the numpad 4 for this cam, and when it disconnects, the shortcut numpad 4 selects the next input, which is the audio. If we then accidently press numpad 4 without noticing the cam got disconnected, the audio stops.

Is there a way to lock these shortcuts to 1 device only?

That happens if any inputs are removed. We have to deal with this quite often with our sound board. The USB Port number will change from one game to the next. Then I have to check my shortcuts and also my triggers. It would be nice if that were not the case.

Hi,

In vMix 13/14 if you load a preset and the camera cannot be found, it will be added as an offline input
to make sure the shortcuts are all correctly preserved.

Can you describe how the input is being removed then perhaps I can see what solution might be available?

Regards,

Martin

@ Ittaidv

As far as I know, this should only happen if you remove or close the input, at least in vMix 14.
The shortcuts are "hardwired" to the input # or placement, so as long as your input is still there it should point to it.
When I lose a firewire connection, I know because the picture freezes, once the connection is re-established, the feed usually returns and all is well.
Sometimes, I need to right click the input and 'reset'.

It happens indeed when i remove the input. It's the only way for me to reset the connection. Often when this cam disconnects we are a bit in a rush to fix this, which was also the case yesterday. In this rush we didn't check the sound that was off because the shortcuts changed destination.

Right now the shortcuts seems to be tied to the spot the inputs have: the first on the left is nr1, the second nr2, the third nr 3, etc...

What would be cool, is that you could also lock a shortcut to a certain device. This way you can also move the input to another spot, without losing the shortcut to it, that would seem far more logical to me.

@ Ittaidv

In a perfect world, it would be nice if computers thought like us...
However, they don't and need to be told exactly what to do!
In my case, as I have alluded to in other posts, I set up my first 8 inputs as "blank" or "color" inputs and set up my main shortcuts linked to them.
That never changes, what does change is the inputs I use within them.
I will overlay camera 1 on input 1, camera 2 on input 2 and so on and so forth.
If something happens mid-stride, like having to re-input a camera for whatever reason, I just add it anew as an overlay in Multi View and don't have to worry about re-aligning shortcuts.
