Just purchased the Ultrastudio Recorder 3G and connected it via a Thunderbolt 3 cable to my laptop but vMix does not recognize the device or the camera connected to it (?)
I also installed the Blackmagic Desktop Video software, which does not recognize the device either.

Make sure you've got the appropriate Thunderbolt drivers as well and (if so) have enabled the device in the TB3 security settings.
This will vary by laptop manufacturer of course.

Actually it was the Blackmagic software (Desktop Video) which is required and had not installed correctly.
The issue was resolved by following thisrunning the Desktop Video setup and sequence I got from a very old post in the blackmagic forum - uninstalling Desktop Video, rebooting the laptop, reinstalling Blackmagic Desktop Video, then rebooting it yet again and finally running the Desktop Video Setup, selecting (in mu case) the hdmi option.
Now the device is recognized.
