This year we are going to stream our Halloween festivities so that family who cannot participate will be able to watch. We get about 2000 kids past our front gate every year.

We have some otherwise unused IP surveillance cameras that deliver 1080p30. Not the best picture quality, but not terrible.

However, I've noticed that vMix is not very happy with the RTSP stream they create. When used a a source directly, they periodically go to black, report a connection error, then eventually reconnect.

The network is otherwise stable. I suspect the server component in the cameras is underpowered/not very stable. I tried longer buffers, with little effect.

As a test, I tried receiving the RTSP stream into VLC. That was dead stable.

Second text, set VLC to output to NDI...into vMix. Also dead stable.

Which reminded me to the VLC input type built into in vMix. After installing the latest VLC-for-vMix the IP cameras appear to be seen as stable sources in vMix. No outside processes involved.

We'll stream a fixed 4K scene that is a quad split of 4 different 1080p30 shots.
