I am experimenting with how to do some nice double box MultiViews with frames around the sources. Whereas PiP overlays can have kind of rudimentary boxes, my ambition is to work with more good looking ones ;) And preserve the four overlay channels for other uses.

So far I have come to the conclusion that probably the best way is to create a Virtual Input of the original source A (eg camera 1), crop it if necessary, and add a png with the frame over it. This will then allow me to (relatively) easy reposition and resize the resulting "box". See the attached picture for an example.

Problem though is that I typically need to replace the "original" camera with another source (eg camera 2). But I can't change the source for the Virtual Input. That's why I am requesting this function.

About a year ago "pelican" asked in the General discussion about the same thing (I think).

Yup, an alternative way is to use MultiView to combine source A with its png box and source B with its png box (four inputs in one MultiView). But in practice it is impossible during live production to resize/reposition the sources.
