Dear vMix,
I'd like to start using a confidence monitor in my vMix production. Ideally, I would like to output the input of our PowerPoint slides, directly to the TV through Ethernet cable, using an NDI converter at the TV. I have two options, the Bird dog Flex NDI Encoder (In) or Decoder (Out). I already own the Birddog Flex In, but would this allow me to output to the TV? Or, would I need the Birddog NDI Out (Decoder)? I know this might be obvious to you, but I want to make sure it works before laying down the dollars :)

I know a long HDMI cable is one option, but we prefer the simplicy of NDI for large productions.

Thanks,
Joe

You can send any source via an External AUX output, even via NDI to an NDI receiver. My vMix 4k license supports 4 external outputs.

In the past, I've used Birddog Mini and Studio as NDI receivers, feeding monitors or projectors.

I've also used NDI Studio Monitor on small PCs, like the Lenovo Tiny series.

In a pinch, you can use Dicaffiene on a Raspberry Pi4. However, it only works reliable for 720p30. At 1080p you won't get 30 fps. It can be adequate for PowerPoint or some digital signage.

I much prefer NDI to long HDMI cables.

Thanks for the feedback! Birddog got back to me on the hardware. I can use the Flex NDI (out) or the Birddog Mini, so I guess these are my two options.
Now my presenters don't have to look behind their backs. hehe.. :)

It's strange they wouldn't tell you about the PLAY? That's what I would wait for if you can!

It'll allow you to just put this on your existing network, take a HDMI out of it to the TV, and you'll have all your NDI outputs available on the screen.

Bird dog actually suggested the Play as well, but it’s a non POE device, so wasn’t an option for me

Thanks!
