Sending sound from X32 Mixer—meters green—to Scarlett 2i2—gain rings green—then to VMix, and mixer shows pre-amp in in the red half the time. Sound is fine. No detectable clipping.

Why is the Vmix meter over-reacting?

Any ideas or help most appreciated.

I see the same thing. We've got x32 to VMIX to ZOOM over NDI. Red still seems to be nowhere near clipping levels. I'm going to add a LUFS meter to the master (YouLean VST) and tell our techs to watch that. The problem with that is in vMix the plugins are pre-gain stage, so it's not a great solution.

I've noticed this too. It seems vMix considers anything over -6db as red.

Anything less than -1dB is unsafe and will show as red.

Most digital audio outputs can't physically exceed 0dB.
In these cases any audio beyond 0dB is lost completely, so it is not possible to determine if it is clipping only at this level.

Hence the small headroom of -1dB
thanks 2 users thanked admin for this useful post.
