Hi everyone,

At the weekend we were running an broadcast using vMix 25 & 5 cameras on NDI (Kiloview SDI converters on each) as well as bridge between a couple of PC's. vMix crashed a couple of times & it seemed to correlate with the NDI sources being disconnected. Has anyone else had anything similar? All NDI inputs were added to vMix with FEIM ticked & had been running fine for hours.

Cheers,
Harry

This has been an issue for years actually.

vMix crashes quite easily on NDI disconnects. Some NDI devices might cause this more often than others. Birddogs have been particularly effective at crashing vMix in the past, however even Scan Converter crashes vMix easily. Martin and Greg cannot however, cannot replicate this and believe it to be a minor issue that only a few users experience.

You might need to enable FEIM on the NDI input when adding it or switch to a SDI workflow.

I updated to V25 for the last show and loaded my profile. Boom crash. I had a gut feeling that it's some NDI source and opened them with Studio monitor. Boom crash, on one source.
I rebooted the cam (P200) and all was fine for NDI.
But with V25 my StreamDeck refused to work as well. So I ended up downgrading to V24

As mentioned, this has been an issue for years, so downgrading to vMix 24 is unlikely to be a permanent fix.

FEIM works - at least as a stopgap solution.

niemi,

Not sure it is helpful to keep provide incorrect information.
As mavik has shown in their own testing, the crash also occurs in Studio Monitor, so they will need to contact the manufacturer to report the issue and obtain a firmware update.

I will clarify again hear to clear up the misinformation.

If you are seeing a crash as a result of a source disconnection, it means the NDI encoder is sending corrupt frames.
Usually because it does not detect the disconnection properly and sends an incomplete frame of some kind.

This is against the NDI spec, and it is up to the manufacturer to correct their firmware to resolve this.
You can test and confirm this in other apps like Studio Monitor to confirm it is not a vMix issue.

FEIM is only intended to help isolate which particular source is faulty, so you can refer to the correct manufacturer for a fix, it is not intended as a long term solution.

Regards,

Martin
