vMix detects hardware change and indicates unregistered

This has happened twice now. vMix will not start properly because it thinks a hardware change has occurred and the system is not the same, thereby generating an unregistered software error. This is not the case. The hardware has not changed and the installation is perfectly legal. The only way to fix the problem is by going to the vMix web site and registering the same computer again. This is easily done when I am present, but other volunteers running the system when I am not present cannot easily do this.
What causes this, and Is there any way to prevent this from happening, or easily correct it when it does happen?

I've encountered this several times with one particular laptop - The cause seems to be a USB-C Network adapter (sometimes present, sometimes not) which changes the number of network adapters in Windows, and triggers the vMix licence check.

we also had it after a Windows Update (but can't remember which update it was) also if you change the name of the computer, it happens sometimes
