We were streaming fine with our setup and I upgraded windows home to pro. Suddenly we had issues with our streaming. We had slight video choppiness with motion and we had a high pitched whine in the audio that also has a constant fast beeping sound. You can hear the beep on the recent recording:

I resolved the video choppiness by selecting to use hardware processing.

However, the audio whine with the beep continues regardless of what I have tried.

The fact that a software upgrade introduced the problem makes me believe it is a software setting issue, especially since 1 - the upgrade impacted video too, 2 - there is a steady beeping noise, 3 - this hardware setup worked just fine before the upgrade. However, as described below I can resolve the issue by removing the physical audio connection between the camera and the mixer (even when the mixer is off) and using the camera’s built in microphone making me think it could be a hardware issue.

The physical audio path is mixer out (xlr) to sure 50db line noise reducer to cable with xlr and 1/8” audio jack plugged into the canon camera audio input to hdmi output to external magwell hdmi capture card to cable with hdmi and usb 3.0 plugged into a usb 3.0 slot on the computer. From the computer, there is a connection to the mixer where the audio goes out a 1/8” to an xlr converter to one of the mixer inputs. I tried re- connecting every connection and replacing cords with no change. Removing the line noise reducer only increased the volume of the issue.

I can stop the wine/beep in these ways:
1- If I disconnect the connection from the mixer to the camera and use the camera’s built in mic the issue goes away. Re-connecting the camera to the mixer with any combination of cables/connectors the noise returns. Even with the mixer off, connecting the camera audio input to any mixer output re introduces the noise.

2- If I turn off the usb audio input in vmix. Every other computer audio works fine with our system until I turn on the usb audio input in vmix. I tried a fresh install of vmix and simply added the camera input and usb audio input and the biz/beep was there. This makes me believe that if it is a settings issue, it is probably a windows settings issue.

I saved a system image prior to the upgrade but hoping to not have to go back to home edition. Any help is greatly appreciated.

When does the noise occur during the video you posted?

This problem sounds like a feedback loop since disconnecting the audio cables stops the issue.

Instead of using method #1 to stop the wine/beep try taking a look at your Canon camcorder's settings. In the Menu go to MIC Terminal Input. Check and see what it is set to. If you are using Line Out on your mixer, then try the External Audio setting instead of Microphone.

Thank you for your response,

The high pitch beeping noise is all the way through the video I posted and it is consistent. It is easy to hear at the 10 second mark since the background noise is quieter.

The camera is a Vixia HF R800, so there are no settings on the audio out other than audio volume, which we have always set on “auto.” The sound board is a Yamaha LS9, I will check to see if it has an option like you mentioned.

I hear you on the feedback loop, especially since removing the connection to the sound board resolves it. What gets me is we have been using this setup for over a year with no problem so I find it hard to believe the setup itself is improper.

The change came when we upgrade windows home to pro and it changes settings in windows and vmix. All else is the same as before. That is what makes me believe the issue is some buried setting in windows or vmix that are causing the issue.

Any idea what windows/vmix settings would cause the beeping and why would it depend on if the camera is connected to the sound board?

Since you upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, have you installed the latest audio drivers on your computer? If you have a built-in Realtek device, take a look at the Realtek HD Audio Manager. You can access it through Control Panel.

If it's not there, go to Device Manager and see if you have a Realtek device listed under Sound, video and game controllers and Audio inputs and outputs. If it has a Yellow triangle next to it, there's a problem. Here's a video about updating the Realtek driver

Though not always the case but I've found built-in, on the motherboard sound devices are problematic. I always use USB sound devices.

Yes, that is what I was looking for.

This explains why I couldn’t find the audio setting as before. Windows replaced the Realtek driver with its own driver. I had checked the device manager and windows update and they claim all devices have the best drivers installed. But going to the computers manufacture website it has quite a few drivers that need installed and updated. Hopefully this will be the key. I will let you know how that plays out. It might be a couple days before I can finish this and do the testing.
