Hello all. I would like to know what motherboard would be sufficient to run 4x Blackmagic Decklink recorders? I need to capture a live show with 4x cameras with sdi inputs.
Being that I am already in possession of 4x decklink recorders, would it be possible to find a motherboard that can fit four of them? Later on I will be investing in a Decklink Quad, but for now the recorders will have to do.
I was thinking of using a Asrock z77 extreme 4 I have lying around with a I5 2500k running 16gb of ram with a GTX 670 as my system. With the graphics card in the system there would still be 2x pci-e x1 and 1x pci-e x8 slot free. Would I at least be able to run three Decklink Recorders from the board?
If not What board would you all recommend?
I would greatly appreciate any help you all can give me.

Hi,
Please be aware that some motherboards share the bandwidth between PCIe slots (including the one above). Depending of other cards (and their bandwidth) and/or the limit of the chipset, 4 declink cards won't work. I have had that kind of experience.
I use a MSI Z77A-G45 motherboard with 4 DecLink recorders. That works, however (again) not with some very advanced full blown graphics card.
Regards, Hanno.

I used a very similar board to this in one attempt myself. The board did not recognize the DeckLink Quad at all.
From what I gathered in researching the problem I was having, I believe I discovered there is a chip on these boards that sits between the chipset and the PCIe lanes that acts sort of like a hub so that cards can speak to eachother at a faster datarate than the chipset actually supports. The presence of this chip works for most hardware, but something about the Blackmagic card is completely incompatible with this PCIe hub.
Bottom line, don't buy a board that has more PCIe lanes to offer than the chipset supports. That will tip you off to whether or not this special chip is present.
