Hello friends, my first post on the forum. I wonder if the Vmix is to enable a safe area for output or external output.

I add this as an overlay when setting up graphics etc, then turn off for broadcast. Although you could just leave it there and disable that overlay on output. Graphic (16:9 1080p - will auto scale to 720p) has safe zones, thirds and halves - took a coupld of mins to knock together in illustrator. hogwam attached the following image(s): zones-1080.png (14kb) downloaded 31 time(s). Guides-1080.png (13kb) downloaded 36 time(s). Capture.PNG (1,448kb) downloaded 23 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Try to login or register.

Although there is a work-around as hogwam suggests. And to be honest, vMix is not really a design tool or editing program, BUT... I do see the merits of having a toggle switch on the preview screen for a "title safe" overlay. So in that regard,

In what situations are you seeing the output video being cropped? I understand the overscanning that occurs with analog outputs, but i'm not aware of any digital broadcasting methods that might crop the image?

True, but there's still an SMPTE standard (ST 2046-1) that applies to broadcast which in simple terms is: Safe title = 90% Safe action = 93% Titles outside of this may be rejected by broadcasters.

Then one of our customers reported that one player (I think it was an Xbox) actually cropped the video slightly. So, to be on the safe, safe side... ;) In any case, having safe area markers on the Output will look more professional (eg for all vMix promo material screen shots).

It would be great if we could have an overlay of a safe area in the preview window just like the ATEM TVS has. Len56 attached the following image(s): ATEM TVS safe area.jpg (14kb) downloaded 4 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Try to login or register.

We use Safe Areas everyday in our video production business.
This would be a very useful tool for professionals.

I also think it would be useful with a set of available "safe overlays". And that these could be shown not only in Preview, but also when setting up Multiview inputs.
While the type ATEM TVS offers is kind of inobtrusive (one might always have it on the Preview), others like the ones hogwam provided are quite useful for arranging elements like lower thirds and PiPs. Actually, different grids would be great. How about actually being able to add custom made overlays, for example in a directory "Safes", next to Titles.
