Greetings,

We are a small church that broadcasts a service, usually once a week. We have used VMix for over a year and really like the product. However, we are encountering an issue with an intermittent failure of the broadcast during services that we have not be able to isolate. I have scanned the forums for similar issues and have attempted some suggestions to no avail. I am seeking other ideas based on the data below.

Facts
0. We are using VMix 24.0.0.1
1. We are sending only one stream -- destination: Facebook Live
2. We have a (relatively) high-speed Internet broadband connection. We have used both wired and wireless connections.
3. Issue is intermittent. We can go up to 30 minutes without issue. At other times, we have repeated issues all in a row.
4. We will lose connection (streaming button goes yellow) for 5-15 seconds then broadcast resumes. (We do not have to restart)
5. Drops do not seem to correlate to what is being broadcast. Sometimes it drops during a live camera broadcast, sometimes during a video, etc.

Steps we have attempted to no avail:
1. We usually broadcast using H264 720p 1.5 mbps AAC 128kbps.
We have also used Facebook H264 720p 1.5 mbps AAC 128kbps setting.
Either way, we have intermittent glitches.
2. We have trying turning Strict CBR on.
3. We have run a ping loop to Facebook in the background. When Vmix lost connection, no ping failures occurred, suggesting the Internet connection is still alive.

The logs below are from a recent 1-hour long session that failed approx five times at different points.

I will be happy to provide more information if needed.

Thx!

PS: I do question that the bitrate in some places in the log file seems to exceed the 1.5 mbps limit we use. I may be misreading something.

Note: I have an entire log file made up of "Part duration 0.99992 too large". This is an atypical error as I tend to see
the header issue and occasionally the "Writing encrypted data to socket failed" error much more often.

As a possible starting point, can anyone confirm whether the bitrates listed below are exceeding what I thought streaming was set to (H264 720p 1.5 mbps AAC 128kbps).
(The bitrate of 2641.0 kbits seems high compared to 1.5 mbps, but perhaps they are not referring to the same thing.)

frame= 4013 fps= 30 q=27.0 size= 43177kB time=00:02:13.92 bitrate=2641.0kbits/s speed=1.01x
frame= 4029 fps= 30 q=27.0 size= 43338kB time=00:02:14.41 bitrate=2641.2kbits/s speed=1.01x
frame= 4044 fps= 30 q=27.0 size= 43544kB time=00:02:14.93 bitrate=2643.7kbits/s speed=1.01x

If the bitrate is high, how do I contain it other than through the quality option on the Streaming Settings dialog box?

(I'll admit I have issues with the streaming settings option. When I make changes, save and close, I back in and find any changes I made did not seem to stick.)

Hi,

This error means something on the computer or network is dropping the connection.
Common causes can be 3rd party antivirus/security software or faulty routers or even connectivity issues at the ISP.

Regards,

Martin

I appreciate the input and will attempt to follow up.

(1) Any recommended suggestion on how to testing for the dropping of connection to isolate? As mentioned, we ran an endless ping to Facebook in the background while streaming. The ping continued to indicate a connection every time the stream stopped and restarted. This happened multiple times. (Yes, I understand that a router issue could block a specific type of traffic.)

I would understand the antivirus issue possibility more if it were blocking the connection all-together or if the software provided some kind of warning. We can go 30 minutes without issue at times. Other times, it seems to drop 3-4 times in a short time only to recover and stabilize. We can certainly turn off the av software during a broadcast to see what happens.

(2) Is the log entry: frame= 4013 fps= 30 q=27.0 size= 43177kB time=00:02:13.92 bitrate=2641.0kbits/s speed=1.01x
in alignment with a 1.5 mbps quality setting?
