Check out riverside.fm. Basically this inside vMix Call would be insane - ie guest's video is recorded locally and uploaded in the background so a high quality ISO file is available in the cloud after a recording session. Riverside appears to use some kind of buffer, where the high quality file is being uploaded constantly throughout the call - so depending on internet speed at the end of the call it only has another 20% or so to go. Try it out, they have a free trial.
Why not just use riverside you ask? Because I want all the control vMix call gives in terms of return feed (producer talkback etc), and outputs to other places during the recording session.

+1!
I came here to request exactly this. We did a bunch of testing with Riverside with a client, and in the end the flexibility and power of vMix was more important to the them than the higher quality Riverside recordings. They are using the recorded calls in post production, and have to deal with the choppyness of the internet feed, as well as all of the audio ducking and garbling, and they STILL chose to stick with vMix because of all of the switching capability we have (changing their return feeds on demand, re-arranging multiviews, etc).
This would make vMix by far the best tool for remote recording sessions.

Exactly the same boat here! I work on both the production and post production side, and the struggles of dealing with bad footage from a remote call in post are a lot smaller than the issued in recording without the full vMix feature set. Remote recording is streaming in a way. It's just usually not public facing (the sort of jobs I do anyway). The stream is used internally by members of the production crew and creatives working remotely, and has all the same demands of fast high quality reliable video feeds, agility to alter input config on the fly, complex audio routing, different video and audio outputs required, syncing, mix minus audio sends for different comms channels etc. Fine example is a shoot tomorrow, when we have a presenter in a multi cam studio talking to a remote guest. The studio and remote location are staffed by tech crew only (for COVID obviously), while creatives, clients, etc direct from home. Both locations are recording in-camera for traditional post. But there needs to be a live video and audio call between presenter feedback monitor and guest auto-cue/earpieces. Then there needs to be a no-delay multi view output sent to remote production staff with mixed audio and embedded crew intercom, with return comms from production, an intercom between studio and location crew, and director talkback to presenter. See what I mean? It is live production and streaming. Just with ISO recording, which is industry standard. So why shouldn't it be within vMix's remit to do a local high quality ISO recording so you don't necessarily need to send a camera crew. Even if vMix teamed up with Riverside to create some kind of plugin/cross compatibility it would be really useful. Save reinventing the wheel.

EDIT: what he said ^^^ Originally Posted by: doggy Originally Posted by: gzifcak This would make vMix by far the best tool for remote recording sessions. vMix: Live Production & Streaming Software Sorry if my use of "recording sessions" confused the issue. My live production career has always included recording the feeds for use in post, which is exactly in the spirit of the phrase "Live Production & Streaming Software." It's a switcher, it's software, it pulls camera feeds over internet, it records. There's no reason not to make the records happen at the camera rather than be garbled by the transmission medium just because it says the word "live" on their website. Or should they get rid of the recording features altogether? If there were a better tool than vMix to make this happen I'd be glad to use it, but the switching, routing, layer comping, and control is already so flexible that I have clients choosing low quality vMix records over higher quality local ones just because they can call the shots "live" and get exactly the looks what they want.

Quote:a high quality ISO file LOL a 2 Mbits 720p (or even a 4Mbits 1080p) incoming feed based on WebRTC (insanely compressed H264/Opus) will never result in a high quality ISO file ! ISO recording such sources at 50 Mbits bitrates cannot improve quality. It's just waste...

The idea here is that a local recording would be made on the remote participant's computer directly from their webcam using a higher resolution and bitrate. The live feed that is being simultaneously sent over WebRTC would use a more bandwidth-efficient encoding. This ISO recording would then be uploaded in the background or after the call is over, and it can use a higher bitrate because it doesn't have to be transmitted in real time.

A software like ManyCam already allows to do what you want and still be usable for vMixCall

The desire is to take the current ease of use of vMix Call, where all you need to do is click on a link, and add this recording feature to it with no additional hassle for the end user, much like the service Riverside.fm already provides for recording.

I see this thread is 2 years old but I think it's still relevant. So many people use vmix for post production. If riverside.fm can stream live it seems that there is much cross over between live and pre recorded video production. It's definitely doable but is this just too much for the guys to take on? There are definitely ways of doing this already but they all require additional software and configuration. If vmix call could just record the callers video/audio locally and send the files back to the control room, it would make vmix so much more valuable. Take it a step further and sync the local iso recordings of guests to the program recording in vmix to make editing in post even easier.
As another has said, maybe this could also be a plugin via riverside.fm or something like frame.io or livetoair.
