Canon has new webcam utility for almost all EOS models which allow you to use the DSLR as a webcam via USB directly so no HDMI capture device needed. It works great with OBS, zoom etc. I can't get it to work with vMix camera input.

Has anyone gotten this to work or is it using some format not supported by the vMix camera input?

It's not really a good solution. All the camera is doing is redirecting the Live View to the USB port. The cameras do not have MJPEG compression onboard. This limits the resolution and frame rate. It won't deliver 720p30. More like 480p20.

Even a $20 HDMI capture device delivered better video. Of course, many Canon DSLRs don't output clean via HDMI without running Magic Lantern firmware.
