Hi,

Is it possible to have 16 vmixcallers at the same time by using 2 vmix pcs? How can this be achieved and mix minus set up etc.?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Yes, you can use two instances. 8 callers each. But then you have to create the mix minus between these systems on your own.

You might want to take a look at a video conference instead and bring them in that way. If you really would need them stand alone and in good quality you can take a look at medialooks as well.

Thanks Mavic.

So vmix 2 is available to vmix 1 via SDI and vice versa. In each machine you create a mix minus on a bus and send this as the audio feed to each caller. Audio and video between the two vmix pcs are via NDI? But each individual vmixcaller in vmix 2 pc can be seen individually in vmix 1 as an NDI source? Have I got that right?

I’m not familiar with Medialooks - what can you do with that? Does it integrate with vmix somehow?

Appreciate your input. Peter

Yes, NDI can be used bi-directionally between the PCs for callers.

With medialooks you would just need 1 vmix and of cource a license of medialooks. Advantage is, that a single setup is simpler and that the mix minus can be done in medialooks with the 16 callers. And medialooks supports 1080 and SRT.

If you wanna test with medialooks send me a PM

Sorry to say that but what you don't mention is that you would have to pay 4000$ a year to use 16 callers in Medialooks.

That is way to much money for that functionality.

You get what you pay for. You expect pro features for zero dollar. This is a business plan that can't work.
4000$ for a one time show is maybe a high price. If you do 4 shows a month the price is a joke.
Same applies to vmix. If you use it once a year I agree you might be better with OBS. But if you prefer the more advanced features and you do a regular show the price is relative. Same applies to Adobe and other subsciption based software.
You don't have to use other software if you don't like to pay for it.

A second vmix machine is about the same:
Capable computer=$1500
Vmix Pro=$1200
BMD Decklink Duo=$500
Monitor and other accessories approx $500

you're at about $3700

Unfortunately you miss something here:

Capable computer=$1500
medialooks=$4000 per year!
BMD Decklink Duo=$500
Monitor and other accessories approx $500

you're about $6500 and $10500 in the next year...

Cheers

I can definitely appreciate wanting to use vMix Call instead of something like Teams for this. For the ease of use, native integration in vMix, and easy setup for the callers (nothing to install). But for 16 callers, you're looking at some hurdles. It might be time to throw in the towel and just use Teams or Skype.

Are you aware that programs like Teams and Skype can output each caller as their own NDI stream? Handling the audio is relatively easy (not as easy as vMix calls, but not bad). You just need to create a second audio bus with the NDI sources disabled (but everything else enabled). Then use that audio bus for the output back to Teams or Skype via the NDI virtual webcam.

The issue with Teams NDI is that the resolution drops as you add callers and you are limited to 9 NDI sources. First caller gets 1080, second caller drops to 720, 4-9 every drops to 640x360.

This is doable for free with obs.ninja. There are few useful companion apps for obs.ninja, like the obs.ninja electon capture app and Vingester, for pre-setting up URL params

I was not aware of that. I learned something new today.
