Evening!

I use vMix to get offsite talent into my shows. It's a COVID thing. The beta for the caller side has been a godsend for making audio sound better.

Looking for two similar things, that have two very different outcomes:

1) a way for the remote caller to press a button (or a key on their keyboard) to momentarily interrupt their audio feed. A cough button. Press the key and the mic is muted, release the key and it's back. Or mouse click.

And 2) a way for the remote caller to press a button (or a key on their keyboard) to momentarily interrupt their main audio feed and CHANGE which buss their audio is going through. A talkback button.

In a traditional (read not vMix) production scenario, the talent would have a box in front of them with two buttons: one to cough, and one for talkback so they can have a quick, off-air, conversation with the show producer. The talkback mutes the audio going to their mic input on the board and switched their mic to a different input (buss) that either puts their mic directly in the ear of the producer or puts it directly to a speaker that's in front of the producer. Especially in a long-form program (read sports), having the ability to say "hey, get a replay of that last play" or just to punk the producer makes life so much easier.

I can see having the caller's mic input set to the master buss. And when they press the talkback, the output to the master is muted and their audio gets routed to the "A" buss.

Is there a way to do this already? Or should I put this up as a feature request?

Give your announcers a real announcer console at their end. Run the OnAir output into the LEFT computer input, the talkback output into the RIGHT computer input, buss appropriately on the vMix end.

1 . just use the mic button in the vMixCall interface

2 . expose your shortcuts for remote access via a web page

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I think that a combination of the left-right suggestion and the web page remote might just do the trick. It's either that or I buy some Studio Tech boxes!!

Again, appreciated!
