Hello,
Martin, this seems to be important as we run into problems a few times.
The discussion is about the vMix behavior when some devices ( audio devices, video monitors) that are saved in a preset are disconnected (in fact, when they are not connected at the vMix start).
Probably will be much safer to have the vMix fall-back to none when a device is disconnected and not to "default" as it seems to be now.
For example, we use an external video assist (hdmi) which is used as the destination for Bus B (sound).
When the video assist is disconnected the sound for Bus B is routed to the default audio device . In our case that means we hear same audio 2 times ( with echo) .
Also, there are similar problems with surprising behavior for Shortcuts and Triggers . In our tests, when a module is removed, the shorcut falls-back to another available module and not none.
Thank you very much,

Exactly right.. Sorry.. I missed the message then .. richardgatarski wrote:1. When vMix loads a preset where audio devices defined in the preset are missing, the Audio outputs are set to default. While this is good, I firmly believe a warning "Missing audio device" is necessary. When mounting all gear at a venue one might (by mistake) start vMix before all cables, here USB, are connected. A missing camera is easy to detect, a complex audio setup is very difficult to problem solve...

Hi Clement,
just to add to this: I also save a preset without the inputs, etc. just saving the layout, multiviews, overlays and so... then after opening i reload the inputs.
i found that if something has changed, is reconnected or p.e. input in a different usb port or something, this could lead to problems in the recording. Adding the new input is easy but this way you are also sure the connections match.
i then save the preset under a live name of that same constitution. when i have to restart without reconnecting anything the preset will work just fine.
i have found that small changes could lead to some kind op problem during recordings, and because its a software mixer changes could be invoked from all kinds of levels, being a simple windows update or an updated driver etc etc.
i just spend the whole morning getting all my bm input cards (4 cards) up and running again after updating windows, vmix 13 and the bm drivers...
good luck stefan

I've put the requested output audio device functionality into the early vMix 14 alpha I am working on.
It works as follows:
Output or Headphones device unplugged: Will remain in list but will send audio to default device until output is plugged in and vMix restarted. A or B device unplugged: Will remain in list but will not send any audio at all until device is plugged in and vMix restarted.

Thanks, sounds reasonable. How about a warning message of any device is unplugged?

How about the Recording audio device? Other input devices become "offline" if non existing at start. Maybe some kind of similar actions as above is needed for the Recording device.
