How do put a text overlay on top of an image overlay?

I would like to have an overlay of a perpetual image but have the ability to change the text every week.

Overlays are like layers
Overlay 1 goes first
Overlay 2 goes above overlay 1
Overlay 3 goes above overlay 2
Overlay 4 goes above overlay 3

Same logic applies to layers in multiviews (with 11 layers available)

Knowing this, there several ways to do what you ask: use titles for text seems the most obvious

or make a title with the image background and a textblock on top of it . The you can change the text on the fly without having to go into the designer.
Is standard title design

I am using text overlays for church services (responses to prayers, etc.) that go on Overlay 1 and then disappear in about 2 seconds. There are seven to ten used regularly so I have set up a single Text input with a list. Then using a shortcut, I select the text line number and then activates another shortcut to overlay the selected text using the Advanced Tab in the title input. The issue I'm encountering is that when there is a longer text, it flashes the prior text before a shorter text is displayed. Does anyone know how to ensure the previously selected text does not show?
I would like some way to have it clear just before the selected text is displayed.
Thanks for your help.

to clear use/select blank text when taking the overlay off (on overlayOff)
otherwise you need some delay between changing text and overlaying the title which can only been done in a script
One could edit the title ( GT) and add appearance delay there too

There is really no need to use the advanced tab to add a shortcut, one can simply assign multiple functions to the same key

btw how are viewers able to read the text if only is displayed for 2 seconds ?

Thank you for the insight.
I've tried two methods using the blank title preset. Using the 'select title preset' in a shortcut with an advanced shortcut selection to start the overlay, then adding a trigger to the title to select the blank title preset on overlay out works quite well. The use of two shortcuts also works, but still needs to include the trigger on overlay out.
In response to your question about 2 seconds, the church is 'liturgical' so there are many congregational responses that include standard phrases (e.g. Amen, Thanks be to God, And also with you, etc.). So the two seconds is enough.
I use normal overlays for prayers, hymn words, etc. that are removed manually. I've set everything up with X-Keys, including camera presets (PTZ presets).
Learned a lot in a little over a month of using the software.

Okay, thank you very much!

It would be nice if shadow, alignment, etc. options were accessible in the Title Editor though.

That's why one prepares to save time (issues) afterwards;-)

Besides , "modifying a title and reloading it takes the same time

I just thought, if you can have font style, size, weight and color in the Editor, why not the others... shadow, alignment etc...
