Having a long lasting issue with vMix 23.

Getting audio dropouts even if there is not heavy load on the computer.

Noticed that after vMix is started ASIO buffer size is set to 1024 samples even if I have chosen 2048 in the UMC control Panel (UMC404HD).

vMix should never just drop the audio if it is temporary not available - instead it should copy the last available data and just repeat it. This would prevent the noticeable click.

Laptop, desktop? I also had issues with the UMC404HD myself and reverted back to the Focusrite, I get a drop when first connected then none, even after running all day.

If possible, disable any power management in the BIOS and desktop, your CPU should be running at a constant maximum clock speed. That means disabling C-State and speedstep in the BIOS as well. That may not be possible on a laptop.

Finally, make sure the sample raters matches everywhere. In VMix settings, your local audio driver etc. Sometimes the issue comes down to a WIFI/network driver, you can try disabling those too.

+1 for Behringer audio issues. I have a UMC204HD that is basically unusable due to drops and delay.

I think it’s the HD part, as in 192k, since the VMix team seems to be doing fine with the standard UMC404.

Unfortunately this is not a vMix issue so not something we can fix.
You will need to run isolation tests to see what might be causing the problem (remove inputs, check Task Manager
for high CPU usage etc, close any running programs, disconnect other USB devices etc).

So I think I finally exorcized these demons on my system by:
  1. Disabling CPU power saving settings in the BIOS like EIST, C1E and the likes
  2. Disable USB Selective Suspend

This may be my specific chipset - c612 (based on x99) - but so far so good! Actually able to use my UMC204HD now!

Hi.

The Windows 10 installation is just done from scratch and all drivers updated.

Even got rid of the USB audio interface and audio is now coming in with optical S/PDIF.

Only mouse and keyboard are connected with USB.

Still getting audio dropouts in vMix every 6 minutes.... Not a vMix fault??

Master Frame Rate 50P (1920x1080).

Render Time 0-4 ms

GPU Mem 24%

CPU vMix 5-7%

Total 6-9%

Hi Chap, first I would drop the rate to 25fps, you are past VMix's minimum requirements at 50fps with just a few inputs. (https://www.vmix.com/help18/index.htm?SystemRequirements.html)

Second, see if you can get your hands on a Focusrite.

The issue could also be a driver, WIFI, even the internal sound card. Latency Monitor might give you some clues, but disabling drivers might be the only way to find out: https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon

Hi Vince.

There are dropouts even if there is nothing but the digital in-audio on vMix..

Render Time 0 ms

GPU Mem 1%

CPU vMix 1%

Total 2-3%

I have seen this same issue on other systems also.

These audio dopouts seems to me like timing issue in vMix.

Hi Chap,

Dropouts are a common issue with not just VMix, but any audio capture application. As I said before, it could be a BIOS setting (In my case it was the CPU power management with a new build and I have not seen a dropout since I turned it off), or a driver.

Your best bet to build a machine from VMix's reference system since it was tested by their team. Try running Latency Monitor (https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon), I almost guarantee that you will get a warning that something else is causing the latency/dropouts.

As seen on the forum many others have also severe issues with vMix audio.

Audio qualty is very important. It's often even more important than image quality.

And they would have that same issue with Protools, or any other audio capture app. Again, see for yourself and download latency monitor.

One more thing you can try is adding a delay to your audio input, start with 10ms and see if that helps.

Changed FPS to 25.

The issue persists:

Every 6 minutes and ~30 seconds there is audio dropout even after adding 10 ms delay to S/PDIF input..

What's your VMix sample rate, what's your capture sample rate? And did you turn off CPU power management in both BIOS and Windows?

And following that, if you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del > Task Manager and go to the performance tab, is the CPU clock speed constant (max), or does it vary up and down?
