Hi.

mp4 h264 has low bitrate audio.... 160 kbs stereo......
should be better and costumizable.

also should have other codecs than only h264 4.2.0 8 bit
Avid DnxHD is free and also Cineform HD ( also free ) should be option ( other than AVI format )

I still need vMix with MP4 Recording at 320kbps or 256kbps. Those are common settings on video editing software, it still is a need.

mp4 is a delivery format. Frankly, 160kbps is plenty for nearly any delivery you would do with mp4. You are much better off editing from AVI.

You don't understand the licensing of these. Neither is free for inclusion with a program like vMix.

Best solution I can think of, and this is off the top of my head and I am not completely certain this is possible, is using the external output vMix Video Device and setting up ffmpeg to record it to DnxHD. My hesitation is that I don't see anything in my couple minute search of Google about people actually handling DnxHD with ffmpeg in Windows. The other solution is that most video editors have capture options and if you have a pro editor it should be able to capture to one of the high quality formats from any video source including the vMix external output device.

I think vMix's perspective, since they would have to license these codecs to use them, is that if you need the format then you should already have the tools available to capture into that format from vmix so there isn't a big need to add the functionality and pay the price for it.

Vmix should add MXF recording with DnxHD and other codecs. and if its a payed option, no problem with that.
MXF is much better than AVI in cross platform ( OSX & WIN ) and better suported on professional video editor softwares.

For what I tested... AVI is not an option. WMV worst.... The only that is usable is MP4 with a high bitrate on video but Audio should allow big values too, I'm currently recording audio externally to get quality.

I think VMIX Should go to the MFX professional wrapper .

all the video editors programs are MXF compatible.
Final Cut Pro X is now MXF compatible. ( finally )

As I said, you can capture from vmix to any format a capture program (editor or otherwise) is capable of capturing with and most pro editors which use the fancy formats can capture into those formats or they include a capture tool that does it. I think one of the limitations of vmix, and anyone who knows better correct me if im wrong, is that it uses Directshow and so natively only supports codecs that are compatible with/included in Directshow.

VLC can do the higher quality audio MP4 capturing...

Yes there are limitations.... but vMix can evolve.... i think....
it is getting each day a alternative to systems like Tricaster , way more expensive.....
GPU processing is on the Vmix Core, and it´s a good thing.
you can for example use OBS to record externally.... but the idea all in one like Tricaster, is the way. I think....
Yes i understand m if you have a external recorder you can get better options.
and no MXF is not fancy... it´s a Broadcast Standard Warper :)
