Other way to highlight line of a Datasource

If you select a line in a data source, this line also remains marked, i.e. based on its internal ID. For example, the third record is ALWAYS marked, regardless of what is in it.
I'm looking for a way to keep a record selected using another field?
Example:
The third line is highlighted, that line contains a 'Name' field, and the name is Smith.
Then the data source is changed, Smith is now in line 1. And now line 1 of the data source should be marked for that very reason.
Is that possible?
