Hello.

First time user of vMix here and finding it good to use.

We're recording zoom and Skype and 'polishing' to make it look a little less like a zoom call, then posting to a website. I'm looking to use the Multicorder to capture the iso NDI feeds, so if needed I can tweak the edit after the record.

When I fire the multi corder and make a recording, when I hit stop and navigate to the folder I've set for the destination, within that folder it gives me a folder titled "logs", then a "multicorderTimeline' xml file and then a load of very short clips.

Am I missing something here in terms of then using the video file afterwards? It's not wrapped a single file I could drop into the time line in an editor if needed.

I've chosen MP4, 8 bit video, 128bit audio, H264Baseline with hardware encoder and fault tolerant. I've selected new file every 30 minutes. It is an NDI input if that makes any difference. Running the current version of vmix trial 23.0.3.60 x64

Any help would be grand!

Thanks,
Pete

I had the same issue using Multicorder I set everything for Mpeg4 and 30 min duration and ended up with sever clips only a few seconds long and very pixelated. They where NDI sources that came in fine to the stream. 2 PC's and the session was only 40 mins tops. Using a highend gaming tower and an external USB3 hardrive same spec as the ones we use with the AJA ki PRO gos. it is not a SSD but has handled 4 HD records for 3 hour GS shows with no issues.

MultiCorder does not support desktop capture sources unfortunately as they do not provide a consistent frame rate.
thanks 1 user thanked admin for this useful post.

Perhaps the multicorder interface would flag each selected source (with a exclamation mark or similar) which is not offocially supported?

It's a good idea, however there is no way to know for sure with NDI sources for example.

MultiCorder is a "Raw" recorded in that it records the timing exactly as it is received.
This in theory means it will record anything, but sources with lots of gaps will result in multiple files which makes it impractical for most purposes.

We include the following disclaimer in the documentation as a result:

NOTE: Any source with irregular timing such as NDI-HX, Desktop Capture and vMix Call are not supported by MultiCorder and should not be used.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Sorry I hadn't spotted the documents noting the issues with MultiCorder not liking NDI feeds.

I'll either look to record the NDI sources via the NDI monitor on another device on the network, or route the required inputs to the other output feeds and then record these as suggested above. As we're not getting ISO audio of each participant, having the main mix audio go alongside these individual participant feeds will be as good as we get.

Thanks again for the help.
Pete.

This is a MAJOR FLAW of vMix!

You guys should to fix it. I need to record both inputs + the output... this renders NDI useless for me.

I have just tried again, with a fresh install of the latest vMix on a brand new Windows 11 machine.

How come it can work just fine with mpeg-2 files but it creates a zillion small files when recording to mp4???

Not a flaw, please see my previous reply explaining that MultiCorder records the source as is.
So if you have big gaps in your NDI source you will end up with multiple files.

I did read everything you guys put out about the issue... about ten times. Sorry, I don't buy that!

If I record to MPEG-2, I get one file. Why?

And more importantly, why can't vMix do the same when recording to MP4?

I would suggest contacting support:
https://www.vmix.com/contact-us.aspx

MPEG-2 does not work differently, and would also be creating new files.
