I’m in need of a new system and graphics cards are hard to come by. nVidia announced the new 30xx GPUs today. I am curious if there is any expected compatibility issues with the new cards? The 3070 at $499 seems pretty reasonable for a card that is faster than the 2080 Ti at half the cost.

Introducing: GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070, RTX 3090 Founders Edition

* GeForce RTX 3080 - Starting at $699, the RTX 3080 is the ultimate
gaming GPU - up to 2x faster than the RTX 2080. Featuring 10GB of the new
high-speed GDDR6X memory running at 19Gbps, the RTX 3080 can consistently
deliver 60 frames per second for 4K resolution gaming.

* GeForce RTX 3070 - Starting at $499, the RTX 3070 is faster than the
RTX 2080 Ti at less than half the price, and on average is 60 percent faster
than the original RTX 2070. It is equipped with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, hitting
the sweet spot of performance for games running at 4K and 1440p resolutions.

* GeForce RTX 3090 - At the top of the stack is the RTX 3090, priced
at $1,499 and referred to as the "BFGPU" - Big Ferocious GPU. It even comes
with a silencer - a three-slot, dual-axial, flow-through design that is up
to 10x quieter than the TITAN RTX and keeps the GPU up to 30 degrees C
cooler. Its 24GB of GDDR6X memory can tackle the toughest AI algorithms and
feed massive, content creation workloads. The RTX 3090 is up to 50 percent
faster than the current ultimate PC graphics card, TITAN RTX, enabling
gamers to experience 60 fps in 8K resolution across many top games.

These cards have only been announced. Might be a bit early to say how they will perform as AFAIK no one actually has them yet. But please, let us know how they perform when you get one.

seems to be a lot of happy responses on nVidia youtube page after the stream.. Nvidia have declared some significant speed increases and cards appear to be priced well.. im wondering if the performance improvements are things that translate to vMix or NLE work though ?? i seem to recall Martin saying in a FTLS that ray tracing performance is meaningless as vMix doesnt use that part of the GPU ?

I noticed Nvidia listed on their website that Av1 codec is natively supported in 3000 series.. that should be a positive for vMix and other video work.

EDIT: just read the Av1 support is decode only no encode.

I've just got my eyes set on that 24GB of VRAM. That'll tear open any holes I've had with hitting VRAM limits in vMix. Woof. That's a beast card.

have you hit ram limits with vMix currently ? what is an example of a project that maxes out your current card ?
