The mask would allow for shifting pips if a person/caller or any element that is off center from the originally created pip. a simple readjusting of the underlying layer without having to also adjust the corresponding crop.

A additional option would be to allow for the layer to look to a different source for its mask. Provide a dropdown menu of inputs to choose from. You could easily create custom shape masks. One additional feature would be the ability to make adjustments size and position adjustments to the mask.
