Let me start by saying I hardly ever have an issue with VMix. Works flawless nearly all the time. I do have an ongoing issue when I have to power off a camera during a live production which causes the program to freeze. I can still move the mouse around and use Windows, with task manager my only option to force the program close before restarting it.

I’m using a Magewell 4 channel HDMI/PCIe card. It’s generally not an issue when the program hasn’t been running long. It seems to come when I’m streaming. Any idea what might be causing this to happen? As you can imagine it’s not ideal to have to restart a stream when you’re well in the broadcast.

Does this occur only with one specific camera model or any of them ?
OTOH I'm very curious to know this reason why you have to power off a camera during a production...

It’s using a DSLR camera connected to a wireless transmitter. We have to chance the battery since there isn’t a AC power source running to the camera. Even though the receiver is never shutdown, just powering off the camera is locking things up.

Thanks for my curiosity but I asked 2 questions to help diagnosing...

> Does this occur only with one specific camera model or any of them connected to this capture card ?

Caution, I'm adding a third question now that we know it's a wireless transmission !

> what happens if this DSLR is turned off when directly connected/plugged to this capture card (not using the wireless kit) ?

we also had some problems years ago with some wireless transmitters when the lost the input.
did you also restart the wireless things?

Yes, it’s happening on specific wireless system but the cameras are changing. They are Canon C100s. Some are Mark IIs with a Mark III mixed in. When plugged right into the hard they work fine. I think it’s something regarding the wireless system but not sure what.

Ive tried multiple power down/up scenarios between the camera and wireless and can’t seem to find an order that works. Even unplugging the HDMI cables first, but nothing seems to work.

Since it's obviously an issue with your wireless kit, I don't get what you're expecting from us here on the vMix forum !

Because VMIX is freezing. Why would turning off a camera cause the program to completely lock up from anything further? Just looking to see why that’s happening. I don’t think this forum is an out of line position to seek such answers.

You've proven it's not a camera issue otherwise you woud experience the same behaviour with all your inputs, not only this one where you use the wireless kit.

I suspect it's the way your wireless kit works when no signal comes in that bothers the capture card.

To make sure :

- try with another capture card, maybe just a HDMI/SDI to USB3 dongle and see what happens.
- try with another live production software, like OBS and see what happens.
- try with another wireless kit and see what happens.

PS : indicating which wireless kit you use might help... Maybe to see if other people experience the same behaviour or not while using the same or a different capture card with vMix... Or simply to know what not to buy... ;o)

Thanks for those suggestions to try and pinpoint the issue.

Hello!

I have had similar issue, where no wireless cameras as involved.
In my setup blackmagic quad 2 or duo 2 capture cards is in use.
Freeze happens during streaming and if I press change button in input properties. Then this input disappears in the inputs list and vMix freeze.
That do not happens always, rather rare, but always in critical moment.

In your case, I think, that your wireless link sending some diagnostics information in one resolution, and camera in other resolution, swapping between these resolution vMix resets the input, and freezes in that moment.

This has also happened to me when I reset the input.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't depend on the capture card.

How often you are changed input during broadcast?
You may not have just stumbled upon this problem.

normaly not
the systems runs 24/7 and then after 3-4 days it happens
especially if other inputs have no signal connected (camera or external player is down over night)

This is exactly what’s happening with me. Your thought on the resolution change sounds like a logical reason for it to be happening. It doesn’t seem to do it when first booting the program but as suggested, happens as the most inopportune time.
