Hi all, new to VMix so apologies in advance if this is a really daft question that's been asked many times befoire. I've tried all I can to find out by Googling and looking through the Knowledge Base but no luck..

Is there a way to advance the preview video on the left hand side frame-by-frame so you can get it set to the exact point the video starts so that, when you hit Cut, it starts instantly? A lot of the videos I'm working with have a bit of silence/black at the start and it's very hit and miss trying to pause/unpause in the right place...

Thanks

There is a shortcut function called "SetPosition" to reposition in milliseconds

use a +=500 to advance 500 ms for example -=value or the opposite

increment size will be dependent on how the video has been coded

Oh wait, it only seems to work on .avi files. On other files, hitting "+=500" seems to send the pointer back to the start of the file and it absolutely does not go forward. Does anyone know why?

Ok, forgive my ignorance. Are you saying that only .avi files have these "keyframes" and so this solution won't work on any other files..?

Being ignorant on the internet is a choice, not a fatality ! Here's an opportunity to learn, ain't it ?

Oh har de har de har. FYI, I have already tried Googling for information and am coming up blank. Instead of being a smart-arse, any chance you could point me in the right direction?

Good. You didn't help at all but I'm sure it feels great talking down to the newbie and putting him in his place. I've tried to read up on keyframes and whatnot but, from what I can see, that's all to do with editing / animation and is a million miles from what I'm trying to achieve, which is to simply play some files. I asked why AVI files appear to have these "keyframes" and other types of files don't. Nothing I've seen begins to even remotely answer that question.

I did point out in my initial response:

A quick glance at those specific threads and, already I see stuff that's helpful to me. Thank you, much appreciated.
