I am setting up the camera system for a church. They are using the Basic HD package for vMix. They have two cameras, the PTZOptics PT30X-SDI-GY-G2 that each have a Blackmagic Design mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G connected via an SDI cable. The Fiber line is going to a Unifi US 16-150W. They have a Dell laptop that is running the vMix software. The original equipment list they gave me had a Datavideo SE-1200MU 6-Input Switcher and RMC-260 Controller Bundle and a Magewell USB Capture SDI Gen 2. I was unsure of why we needed these as I know vMix can handle the switching and capturing of the video and audio. Please confirm that the switcher and the capture are not needed please.

How are you capturing? You will need two of the USB captures. Also assuming you have 4 mini converters working in pairs?
Vmix can switch between the two.
Most likely they were using the DV switcher to switch between the two cameras and using one usb capture for streaming.

You always have to use the optical converters as pair or to go to a camera converter you will not get the signal out of a switch

From what I understand, vMix can do the video capturing and the camera switching for me. If that is true then why do I need a capture device or a switcher for the two cameras. Also, why do I need a second pair of fiber converters?

Also, why do I need a second pair of fiber converters? vMix can capture from a capture card or from a Stream/NDI (but not from a optical converter which has it's own protocol) if you connect video (SDI/HDMI) to an optical converter (which is not a capture card) you have to convert it back to video (SDI/HDMI)

Is I see the PTZOptics PT30X-SDI-GY-G2 has SDI output or RTSP you can try the RTSP Stream (then you need no SDI-Connection and no capture device) but you will have a little delay
if you want to use SDI, first you have to go to a second optical converter and then with the SDI to a capture device
