I open Desktop capture and get a small window that says '0 connections' and '0 FPS'. I saw the training video which instructs you to adjust your settings but clicking the menu bar gives me no 'settings...' dropdown to adjust. What am I missing here?

Don't know about that video, but 0 connections and 0 frames/sec just means that no app is using the NDI stream.
Add it as an input in vMix, or open Studio Monitor and view it, and you'll see that connection indicated.

I am having the same issue. My macbook says "0 connections" and when trying to add it as an input in VMix, it's not showing my macbook as an option either. Any ideas? I've double checked the security settings for the mic and the screen. I double checked the firewall setting was allowing the app.

Have you installed the NDI tools. If not, please do. There is the Scan Converter App available for MAC. This should provide a NDI stream of your desktop.
