I would like to create inputs ahead of time for Skype calls with each caller's Skype account name as part of the parameter so that when they connect, they are automatically placed into wherever that input has been laid out. I found this feature in XSplit and it's very useful for my application. For example, call-in show with known guests.
Would be glad to be wrong / missing if it already exists.
Thank you for considering.

Just create blank inputs as placeholders for the calls to come. When the NDI is available add it as a layer

@DWAM thank you for the reply and suggestion.
Maybe I'm not understanding correctly, but if I try to add an NDI source from Skype with no call connected, there is nothing there to place.
In my use, I want to have cropped frames for multiple head shots rather than just one full-screen image. So, I hoped to be able to lay those out and get filled with the call when it gets connected. Doing the cropping and placing of head shots from Skype after guests connect causes a time lag while they wait for me to do that.

As I mentioned in original post, this is very well worked out in XSplit, so it would be great if vMix could also do. In almost every other way, vMix offers much more.

Thanks again for your reply.

if you expect 3 skype calls

- create 3 blank or colored inputs in vmix, call them call1, call2, call3 or whatever
- create another blank input to create a multiview input
- use the 3 call inputs to build your multiview

when the skype ndi feeds are available

- add them to your vmix project
- add each of the ndi feeds as a layer in each of the 3 calls inputs (this takes 10 seconds for each)
> your multiview input now displays automatically your initial layout fed with the 3 remote callers
