Hi
I'm thinking of building a vMix workstation based on the Dell Precision 7920 Rack.
Anyone else using one of these machines for vMix?
Thinking of a config like this:
- Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4215R 3,2GHz, 4,0 GHz Turbo, 8 C - 64 GB (8 x 8 GB) 2666 MHz DDR4 RDIMM ECC - RTX 2080 TI
A search trough the forums does give some older threads on using Xeon and dual CPU's, but I couldn't find anything recent or based on a Dell Rack workstation, so I thought I'd ask.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Loccufier,
Did You go this route? If so - how did it work out? I’m currently also looking at Dell workstations - more specifically the Precision 5820
Not as high end as your config though ;)
Intel® Core™ i9-10900X, 3,5 GHz, 4,7 GHz Turbo, 10 cores, 19,25 MB cache, HT, (165 W), DDR4-2666, non-ECC 64 GB, 4 x 16 GB, DDR4 UDIM på 2.666 MHz, non-ECC Nvidia Quadro RTX4000, 8 GB, 3DP, VirtualLink (XX20T) 4x 512 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Class 40 solid state-disk
Haven’t been able to find much about these used for vMix, but since it’s a company purchase, we like on-site service warranty. Also looking at Lenovo ThinkStations and the HP Z lineup

I would love to see a Dell rack with 10th Gen i9 and RTX 2080. This racks are really well built, but I think I would be wasting money on a Xeon for VMix.
VMix really cares about clock speed more than the number of cores. You would have to spend a fortune on a Xeon to match an i9 speed.

The Dell Precision workstations (don’t believe they are as “server-grade” as their real server range - but definitely serious hardware) offer 2 rack versions from the 3000-series and the 7000-series.. The 5820 I’ve spec’ed above can also be converted to rack, but it’s off course far from a dedicated rack unit.. I plan to rack mount it though, together with a Behringer XR18, a smaller UPS and some patch paneling for SDI routing.
