Can anybody tell me how vMix handles scaling when run at different resolutions?

i.e. If I place 4k camera into 4K present then use virtual PTZ have i lost the benefit of the cropping factor if I stream at 1080p? Further how are 1080p inputs handled if placed in a 4k project? Basically what dedicates this behaviour the project setting or the final output setting?
