RTMP Input Freezes after a few seconds

I have an nginx RTMP server that I have people stream to, and I bring their streams into vMix via the RTMP input. However, when I add the RTMP inputs, the stream plays for a couple seconds and then freezes. It seems to be some sort of buffering issue...if I increase the RTMP buffer, the amount of time it takes before the stream freezes increases as well, but eventually it does, indeed, freeze.
What's going on? I used RMTP inputs fine with vMix 10, but it seems to be broken in vMix 12. (I didn't try with vMix 11.)
EDIT: I did some more experimenting, and it appears that if I add the RTMP input before the streamer begins streaming, then when the streamer starts streaming, it works fine. In fact, it will continue to work fine, even if the streamer stops and restarts the stream. But if I add the RTMP input when the streamer is already streaming, it freezes after about 4-5 seconds, and the amount of time that it takes until it freezes can be increased by increasing the size of the RTMP buffer. BUT, if the streamer restarts the stream, it will start working again. So the problem seems to manifest itself only if the RTMP input is added when data is already being sent to the RTMP URL, as long as the stream is not restarted.
Does that help at all?

not really. I do this all the time, and have users send streams that are up and running and then I pull them into vMix. I think your issue is with nginx.
Can you reset your max buffer length in the nginx settings? Default is usually 3 for RTMP
