Ok I was looking into this and figured a way that may work "well enough" for some of you.

All I did was open an image editor - in my case Affinity Photo (a low cost alternative to Photoshop) - in this case it was on the VMIX machine

In Affinity, create a canvas with a key type colour as the backdrop - say green, then bring that in as a desktop share, or NDI source or whatever works, then key that colour out on the input settings in VMIX.

Add that as an additional layer over the shot you want to draw on zoom and crop to taste, or you can use it as one of the overlay layers

Then on another layer (in Affinity or photo app) draw your shapes, lines or whatever. Its a bit smeary but at a pinch it might work for you.

There is a small, free program on Github. The program turns Powerpoint into a full-fledged Charactergenerator, with transparent backgrounds. Works super.
It eliminates the background of a PP slide and makes all transparencies visible.
vMix gets the signal via NDI.
