From my understand and personal experience one of the problems with RTMP is it needs a good stable internet connection.


I was wondering if I could get a better RTMP feed by using two copies of vmix to live stream?

e.g.


Camera <<SDI/HDMI>> VMix 1 <<SRT>> VMix 2 <<RTMP>> Youtube


VMix 1 - Poor signal area (wifi) (location 1)
Vmix 2 - Good fiber internet connection (location 2)

Might this work?

Assuming it works as expected the results would have to be spectacular to justify the extra failure points/setup complexity.


Is it possible that SRT is that good?

We also do it another way which dramatically increases the reliability of the link.

You really need you head around networking to do it, or spend time on Google.

Buy Cheap Mikrotik
Connect 2 different 4G modems from different providers into the Mikrotik
Fire up Mikrotik CHR on VPS in cloud.
Setup separate SSTP VPN across each 4G link to the VPS
Setup bonding under interface->bonding and make sure it is set to "broadcast"
Then setup the NAT on each router
Route all traffic 0.0.0.0 over the bond.

So what actually happens is that any traffic in any direction is "broadcast" over both 4G links and which ever packet arrives first is passed on to the internet or back towards the encoding computer. The duplicate packet is then dropped.

So as you are broadcasting video, as one network lags the other network will pick up the slack and vice versa.

This sort of set up with 3 different providers in a moving vehicle is one of the most ideal situations for mobile internet, it's almost unbreakable.

The only downside is you use double or triple the data as you data is broadcast over all 4G connections at once.

My recommendation is the HAP Ac2

You are basically getting Teradek bonding quality at the lowest possible price.
