Hi, I am currently attempting to design a static install live streaming system around Vmix, PTZoptic cameras x4 and a tripod mounted HDMI camera. My question is concerning using Cat5/6 cabling,POE setup and if I would be better running SDI cables. Does the IP setup compress the output quality? Would it be better to run both and power the cameras over ethernet/PTZ camera control but take the feed from the SDI? I hope this is clear. I'm also wondering about if I use NDI/cat5/6 for everything I wouldn't need capture cards in a custom build PC setup and may be able to use a high spec laptop? Any thought anyone?

Yes. And you may need to add a buffer to the camera feed to prevent dropped frames.

Yes. Good solution for best quality and fewer network related issues.

NDI (actually NDI/HX) will give you lower latency and a high quality image in my opinion. Video from PTZ Optics cameras over IP (CAT5/6) will need to be buffered 300-500ms* to avoid dropped frames in some networks. Your mileage may vary.

*Buffered video = video with latency - this will affect your audio sync and may make syncing impossible if non-buffered video sources are also being used.

Short answer - Yes.

I've done this using a Lenovo X1 Extreme laptop with a combination of BirdDog P200 NDI camera and BirdDog Studio/Mini SDI/HDMI-to-NDI convertors. It worked great for me. My application does not require tight lip sync in IMAG.

Like most decent PTZ cameras, the P200 cameras are powered over Ethernet. I ran one Cat 6 cable to each camera location. Bingo. Power, signal, control. It's great.

Longer answer - Maybe. It will depend upon your requirements.

Dedicated SDI is still the best way to absolutely minimize latency, which can be critical for IMAG.

I prefer to avoid NDI|HX since I prefer image quality and low latency, and don't have any bandwidth constraints. I accept that NDI|HX is a must for use of Wi-Fi.

One further word of advice. If you use NDI, take ownership of the network. You need to know what's required to make it work. If you drop into someone else's network, you may find yourself wholly disconnected and powerless to resolve it. Bring your own router. Connect to their LAN for internet access, but have control of YOUR production network.
