Hi,
Has anyone tried UltraStudio for USB 3.0 on a Laptop?
I was planning to buy a Asus N750JV I7-4700/8GB/750GBSATA+250SSD/GT750M/17.3 It has 4 USB3.0 ports. My idea was to connect up to 3 UltraStudio for USB3.0 units for 3 SDI cameras, also use recorded videos and desktop capture
Has anyone tried this gear or similar one?
I recently discovered vMix, (So far using vidblaster but frustrated with it for several reasons). I read about vMix features and watched Martin's last video and looks impressive to me. I also read vMix is less hardware hungry so I was hoping this configuration could work.
Thanks in advance Frank

Don't expect 3 x USB 3.0 capture cards working at the same time on laptop. You have 4 usb 3.0 ports, but most likely there are only two usb 3.0 controllers inside. It means that 2 ports share one controller when you need almost whole usb 3.0 bandwidth to handle full hd signal.
2 HD signals should be possible. If You want more then 2 HD signals connected to laptop look for thunderbolt solutions.
I know nothing about UltraStudio, but Blackmagic Design's USB 3.0 Shuttle doesn't have good opinion. There are problems with several usb controllers compatibility and using two at the same time.
If You need only SDI input there is a new product called Magewell XI100DUSB-SDI (SDI USB 3.0 dongle). First reviews are very promising.
(P.S. Welcome to VidBlaster Dissapointed Users Club... ;)

Thank you @r@wisla,
You're right, but I think if configuring cameras for HD-SDI 720p maybe it could work. I've been recently asked by a customer whether I knew anything about these Magewell capture Dongles. I did not at that time. I went to the website and found they really look promising. Indeed, Magewell specifications for the Dongle, refer to this device capability to adjust a 1080p input to 720p Then my guess is that 3 USB 3.0 might work

I was thinking about that too, but didn't want to theorize too much :) Hardware scaling image down = another plus for Magewell.

I was wondering too if anybody tried the BMD UltraStudio SDI.
I have a pretty simple setup with a Camera where I get the signal from via SDI - the most affordable option without much of a delay would be the UltraStudio in my opinion.
The Mini Recorder would be great too, but as my laptop doesn't have thunderbolt I can rule that out.
