My use of PTZ control is largely for getting a shot of the current speaker, when faced with a room full of people, or perhaps a panel of experts on a stage. I've recently come up with an idea for automatically creating PTZ presets. I offer it here for consideration.
Assume that the cameras are setup and ready for use, as is the stage/scene.
Step #1: QR codes pages
- Print onto standard A4 or 8.5x11" pages a series of QR codes, one per page. - Each one is unique to signify a PTZ preset. - You might wish to have a set corresponding to each camera, if so they could be color coded, or otherwise marked so the related camera can be known.
Step #2: Position the printed pages on the set/stage.
Locate a QR code page at each desired target location on the set.
Step #3: At vMix (presuming such capability is added)
- Set the camera wide to see the entire set. - Engage the Auto PTZ setup function - vMix would have the camera locate each QR code in the scene - Zoom in to a nominal default framing* of each QR code - Save that position as a preset - Repeat for each visible QR code
*You'd want some params to define how tight to seek each printed page. Also, H/V offsets so you could compensate for a page being on a chair back with noone yet sitting in the chair.
The result would be a set of PTZ presets that could be manually tweaked to perfection.
I envision two cameras in a large room, a row of 10 chairs on a stage. A printed QR page on the back of each chair. vMix would take only a minute or two create 10 custom PTZ presets for each camera.
The existing web interface would be a great way to recall each of those presets.
