Andrew Cross recently said NDI 4 will go up to 16 bit in color depth. This is beyond what sdi can do.
Since there's now HDR, and since we now have kick ass color correction and 4K, 16 bit would be a great next step.
I think it's probably a lot more tasking for a computer to handle this, so I would love to see it as an option alongside 8bit processing, for older hardware.
Probably the graphical core of vMix needs to be rewritten for this, so I don't see it as super realistic just yet. But since there's a new big release every year, why not already brainstorm for vMix 25, right?
I think at one point, when we all are used to 4K as a standard, going higher in resolution seems less useful to me than getting better colors out of our machine. What useful extra resolution will we get after 6 or 8K, and at what expense for lenses? I don't think it's going to be that revolutionary anymore. 16k anyone? 10 bit and up, are giving useful extra information: better colors, no more banding, better chroma keys, more precise color correcting, etc..

Actually, all graphics processing in vMix is 4:4:4:4 32bit floating point. It is true that most capture devices come in and out at 8bit, but we upconvert/downconvert only at the final input/output stages.
This means when NDI 4 is released, 16bit will be easy for us to natively support!
HDR is a much more complicated question, and we're not sure at this stage what approach will be taken with NDI 4...

Wow Martin, even after more than 6 years with your software, there's still things that amaze me! Does this mean, it should also be possible to get 10 bit sdi output with for example AJA cards?
