I'm building a new system for a new gig and need to improve beyond single-input cards. What are your experiences/opinions with current crop of cards? (Let's avoid BMD for now. They always have trouble with their finicky drivers. I love their video switches, hate their PC/Mac cards.)

Some candidates from the vMix approved list:

  • YUAN SC560N4

Have you learned anything further on this? I too am trying to figure out which x4 port card to go with except I'm trying to run HDMI ports. I have been looking at YUAN and Blackmagic but can't find anything comparing them. Both seem to be really well liked.

all depends your priorities.
Yuan tech cards are darn cheap today (you can find a 4 SDI input for about 500$.
I would recommend to always choose SDI (3G) over HDMI because coax for SDI is better (better connectors, cheaper on price more robust).
I know you can find optical HDMI cable today, but the connector still sucks.
then on amazon or ebay you can find HDMI to SDI converter for 30$.
The only drawback of this is you are limited to full HD, 4k becomes tricky with SDI.
But for streaming, even 720p is still largely ok.
