Hi

My goal is to reduce the cost of live production. So I check if we can produce
a 3 cam setup without a OB Van on the spot. Each cam send the NDI signal directly
in our studio in our switcher. Latency under 1 sec so we can use intercom.
https://www.medialooks.com/video-transport . Does anyone have experience with this tool?

Think vmix in the future about a development in such solution?

Regards
Patrick

These are fantastic for sending remote video into vMix.

https://www.ebay.com/itm...-Broadcast-/262721536036

(1) Open port on your router and point to vMix PC.
(2) Open stream input in vMix. Select VLC input.
(3) Enter URL rtp://@:port (or similar).
(4) Log into encoder and push rtp stream to your pc's public ip.

There you go. Live remote video into vMix.

There are also HEVC versions which halve your bandwidth..

You can typically get around 400ms of delay.

If you want a perfect stream you can do "redundant VPN" using a Mikrotik which sends your video across 2 internet connections.

If you look around the internet hard enough you will be able to find 4 port versions.

I was originally looking at Medialooks but then found these boxes. I have the H265 version and video quality is fantastic. The best thing about it is you switch it on and it works. If you switch it off and back on again vMix will just play the video as normal. Being UDP it's connectionless so not much can go wrong. And you don't have to stuff around with software or a PC. It's just a chip on a circuit board that does everything.

The only benefit of a birddog is low delay. But for a remote, 400ms or less is perfectly fine.

Look at the attached image which is a screencap of;

Fetch TV box --> Encoder --> Vmix capture

Hi,

I can't open a H265 stream in Vmix. The VLC plugin only allows H264. Are you sure that you're streaming in H265?

yep. Except I have to reload the input when switching between h264 and h265

The plugin does anything that VLC does

Would you mind sharing screenshots of your settings pages?

I'm using a very similar encoder and am having some issues with audio dropping out. I think I've tried most combinations of RTP,RTSP,Mpeg TS and the VLC input or the other relevant stream inputs. (I'm just testing over the local LAN)

Remote production really is the future and becoming the present. Media Looks and Sienna Cloud both offer great solutions. They will be even better once the new NDI 4 comes out soon.

Ideally we will be able to not only see the sources but also control them. PTZ cameras and other cameras that offer color correction.

One thing you can also do is use VNIX Call to connect some sources back to you home unit and also send program feeds to the facility for example broadcasters program feed.

I have tried to add the remote stream of my RTMP server at 20 mbit/s, but the minimum latency with vmix rtmp channel is of 7 seconds and if I play the stream with vlc the delay is of 2 seconds.

Any help?

RTMP isn't build for real-time communication. To get below 1 sec you have to use something like WebRTC (vMix Call or Medialooks).

Yes the Webrtc it's a very nice technology but not the top to manage video signal within a video workflow like vmix.. and.. have a nice resolution like a 2K it's an utopia...

My rtmp server setup have only 100ms of latency setup, the real latency come from the encoder and decoder...nothing else.. the best is to find an hardware rtmp encoder / decoder with dedicated chipset and works easy on every network, without pay for external solution like the NDI over internet .

Also I have tested the transmission of an NDI signal within a VPN tunnel and works, obviously it need that the two peer have to be both in a fiber connection network at low latency, within 10ms .. each NDI channel need only 20mbit/s of bandwidth in the VPN with data compressione enabled (vpn data compression it's not video compression)....

Anyone can advise me some hardware model encoder decoder with low latency on the RTMP output? Online there are a lot of encoder/decoder ... reporting beautiful latency like 300ms .. but the reality it's different..

Thank You.

Teradek, Epiphan, Haivision, Teracue all have pro grade encoders.

Does your cameras support RTMP-streaming ?
If yes then you can use RTMP to NDI convertor (RTMP Mini Server) in Studio for accept feeds and latency will be ~1sec.

Thank you.
Really nice solution to test

I have done several tests and the results of taking the same RTMP signal from vMix (VLC) and with RTMPminiserver, are clearly on behalf of RTMPminiserver the time is always less than half and the stability of the signal is much better. Now I always use RTMPminiserver for my rtmp connections.

If use tjat with multiple cameras do they send the cameras in sync?

no, NDI 4.0 will support synchronized data streams. RTMP doesn't.
