I have a Teradek Cube encoder which will encode interlaced out to RTMP but would like to make use of VMix's visual notifications and keep my workflow within Vmix if possible.

Obviously, this is not a primary use case (or it would exist already) but as my workflow is interlaced, and my SDI output is interlaced, shouldn't my stream be able to be interlaced as well?

Is the best solution to add frames to 50p and request the stream consumer re-interlace the output? If so, the order of frames would be quite important and we've seen some strange field orders when recording sports in this way (slightly unnaturally smooth movement).

Anybody have any experience or advice in this area?

Thank you in advance!
David

That is an interesting question...

There is a manual page about Interlacing: https://www.vmix.com/hel...ndex.htm?Interlaced.html

Also - the external settings have an impact on streaming: https://www.vmix.com/help21/ExternalOutput.html

As a quick test, I set Ext-1 to Pal-50i and then tried a quick test stream to YouTube - it looks as though it was interlaced, but its hard to say, because YT transcodes it.

I hope this helps.

Interlaced streaming is only necessary when sending a feed to a "broadcast" TV channel.

All "webcasts" (streamed over the internet) MUST BE progressive.

RULE:
(most of) TV is interlaced
Internet is progressive

So the answer? Last saturday had same issue. ATEM to vMix, then to Teradek. Now have a fiber link that works on 50i but the image looks bad when moving. So... vMix cant work with TV standards?

vMix supports interlaced output via External Output to Blackmagic, Bluefish and AJA cards.
If you are seeing issues please drop us an email and we will be able to identify the incorrect setting for you.
