Hello, everyone,

I was wondering the extent to which I can use vMix for recording the video. At this point when I set up vMix on a clean system, I only had the two default codecs available for recording - DV and MJPEG codec.
After installing some codecs on my system I noticed that a few more codecs became available through vMix.

Since I am not an expert on video codecs and their stability with vMix, I was wondering if the community has had any experience with this and perhaps can help on choosing an appropriate codec. Im looking for the following setting in codec:
1. h.264 / mpeg4
2. possibility to set bitrate
3. possibility to resize to any size

Any help will be much appreciated,
Dundurs

For h264, I recommend using Flash Media Live Encoder and configure it to save to file.

h264 requires a lot of CPU power to encode, so it is usually best to encode to file using something like CineForm Neoscene and then converting
the AVI file to mp4 afterwards.

Hope this helps.

Martin

I have been using FMLE for some time already to also record the video, but Im not completely satisfied with the encoding quality, especially for sports events when there is a lot of motion.
From the perspective of hardware, there is no problem as we are using one of the latest i7.

Actually the h264 choice is only for one reason - disk storage, I could also use any other codec up to 5 mbitps.

martin,

i have at this moment some disk space problems like dundurs and would be great if we have another options to record. at the moment, x264 is the most powerfull h264 video encoder and aac the best audio encoder. so, do you have possibilities to implement an mp4 encoder on recording feature?

i think we have some options for h264 encoding:
1. x264 - http://x264.nl/
2. x264vfw - http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/
3. mainconcept h264/avc - http://www.mainconcept.c.../sdks/video/h264avc.html

...and for audio encoder:
1. nero aac - http://www.nero.com/eng/...gital-nero-aac-codec.php
2. mainconcept aac encoder (for adobe flash media live encoder) - http://www.mainconcept.c...r-adobe/aac-encoder.html
3. FAAC - http://www.audiocoding.com/faac.html

please martin, think about this options. i hope that this feature can be implemented on vmix.

regards,

melody
