We're going to be livestreaming an event soon for ~10hrs. Are there any 'best practice' suggestions for how to record that locally for later use?

The best advice is to plan for the worst. A second emergency system maybe (a single low res stream maybe) but at least chop the recording into dygestable sizes. Maybe 15 or 30 mimutes. Or even smaller. Generally vMix is rock solid, block windows updates so that usually nothing should break. Make sure the HDD or SDD has enough space, don't record on the system drive. On live concerts I always use a UPS for my circuit so I can bridge trouble with power supply.

The last conference I streamed was about what you described. I had vMix split the file every 15 minutes. Recorded 1080p60 to high-bit-rate MP4 on a dedicated internal SSD.
In hindsight, I could have used a lower bite-rate, since most of my sources were PTZ cameras delivering NDI-HX at <15 Mbps. Very happy with the results in any case.
