Will HD 6450 PCIe x1 be suitable?

I'm still stumbling my way towards figuring out whether vMix is a feasible solution for our needs. I want to capture, stream, and externally output a 1080p60 signal with as little delay as possible. The inputs will be one camera and one laptop (and possibly a second camera, but that is very low priority).

Our current PC is a Dell XPS desktop with i7 CPU (LGA 1366 socket) and a motherboard with one PCIe x16 slot and three PCIe x1 slots. The Decklink 4K Extreme is the only Decklink card that can process 1080p60 video, but it's a PCIe x4 card so that will have to go in the PCIe x16 slot. The leaves me with only PCIe x1 slots available for other devices, including the graphics card.

Would a Radeon HD 6450 1GB card be enough for our needs? This is the one I've found: http://www.club-3d.com/i...6450-pci-express-x1.html ... It would cost me about $100 to get it to my door.

Besides that, I'd be looking at a major upgrade of the computer (motherboard, CPU and graphics cards at least) or a complete replacement, both of which I would prefer to avoid...

Hi Rehan,

As vMix needs to send the full 1080p60 video to the graphics card, a x1 graphics card will not be powerful enough.
For reliable 60p HD video I would recommend a motherboard with 2x x16 (or x8) ports and the nVidia GTX 660

but, this mother board Intel® Socket 1150 for 4th Generation Core™ i7

this mother board comparable for vmix and blackmagic decklink cards.

and mostly vmix best support nvidia graphics card.

Thanks. From what I understand, GTX 660 is a PCIe 3.0 card. Would I need a PCIe 3.0 motherboard to make full use of it with vMix? There don't seem to be many of those around.

It's backward compatible with PCIe 2.0 motherboards.

I wasn't concerned about compatibility. I just want to make sure it wouldn't be hobbled by PCIe 2.0 because of lower bandwidth compared to the PCIe 3.0 standard. Sounds like it should be okay, though.

I found another use for our current PC, so now I have the flexibility to build a complete new system.

Martin, is there any advantage of the Intel Haswell platform over AMD FX as far as vMix is concerned? I will be using a Nvidia GTX 660 graphics card as you suggested.

Related question: Does hyperthreading make a difference for vMix?

The Intel i5-4670 and i7-4770 are very similar except for the i7's hyperthreading capabilities...which is useless for gaming, but would it be significantly helpful for vMix? The price difference is $100, but I think we could squeeze it in to the budget if it affects performance.

(I could also get the AMD FX-8350 for half the price of an i7-4770, but at this point I am assuming that Intel is better for vMix.)

Edit: Well, I went ahead with the i7 CPU, and the answer is that vMix does take advantage of hyperthreading. So I made the right choice. :)
