OK, I'm sold on trying to build a vMix box. We're heavy NewTek users. TC1, 860, 3P1, NCI/O,etc.

The goal I'm hoping to accomplish is 4 HDMI inputs in a TC Mini form factor. Possible BMD card or equivalent. Does anyone have a build they can share? Trying to keep as small and compact in a M-ATX case. Just needs to do 1080 HD. Switch, record, stream for seminars or meetings. Nothing crazy. No IMAG, no complex audio setups. Small minimal setup. I've seen the switchblade systems and vMix Reference Systems but trying to build something in between around the $5-6K range.

Worse case, I can walk into Best Buy and buy a decent gaming machine for sub $2k and take it from there but really don't want to lug a tower on location for these tiny events. Please share your mini builds if you have one!

Hi!

first for 4 HDMI inputs, check Magewell cards. AFAIK there is no alternative, except Yuan maybe (but make sure it's not H.264 compressed signals)

Then for this budget, there is no problem for what you're looking for. Just respect the requirements and build your own PC

Things to consider:
- recent couple for mainboard + CPU (i7 or i9). Don't go for AMD
- 16 Go of RAM is more than enough
- use SSD or M2, at least 2, maybe 3 if your case allows it (a small one for system, a medium one for projects/media, a large one for recordings)
- and the most important thing, get a nVidia GTX 10xx graphic card (1060 is enough, higher if you've got the money)
Regarding graphic cards you can also go for the QUADRO series (recent releases) which are not limited to 2 simultaneous encodes. If you simulcast to several platforms this is a good option.

For audio, an USB interface with XLR inputs like the Behringer UMC 404 is a safe choice

I'm not a big fan of Mini ATX (cos in the end it doesn't make a real difference with a bigger computer for transport and it's limited for many things) but I helped a friend build one recently. It works...

For real portable, hard to beat a highend laptop and Thunderbolt3 with a Magewell HDMI.

Thunderbolt 3

Audio would be a USB mixer like:

Is the UMC404 equal to the UMC404HD?

I can't seem to find a non HD version:

No problem, the vMix shows also refers to it as UMC404.
