Grey Screen when pulling in a stream via VLC

I am using the VLC option to pull in 2 streaming cameras. One is 1080p59.97 and the other is 1080i60. The 1080p stream is giving me a grey screen in Vmix randomly (or when I think the CPU usage is high) while the 1080i is not. When I open the stream in using only the newest version VLC, it looks great. When I drop the framerate on the external encoder to 30fps, it works great in Vmix and haven't seen a grey screen at all. Is there a reason why 1080p would give me a grey screen problem. Newest version of Vmix. Intel i7 4770K.
