Hi all,

So my setup goes like this, I'm planning to setup 2 laptops with vMix on both, with 1 linked to a projector & 1 linked to a TV. I'm aiming to help out some local guys with a talent show event & plan to use video playback & live cameras.

The video playback is of audio effects & visuals, along with the audio they will be performing to. The output of this will get projected onto a back wall.

The second laptop will have 3 cameras linked into it which will film the event & also output to the TV live.

But my question is this, is it possible to link both copies of vMix together in some way to say capture the video playback into the live TV output. and/or output an entirely different video to the TV but actually still control the live recording.

The majority of the event will be projected videos (with audio) & live cameras on TV. Only the TV output needs recording. But on 2 occasions I would like to get the TV output to show a pre-recorded video while still recording the cameras as controlled in vMix.

Now the problem is, there is little to no budget for this setup & I am yet to even get hold of capture cards for it. The recording will be in SD format, so theres no real high specs needed. But I already have a couple of USB based DVD capture style devices which I hope will be able to cope with the 3 main inputs. I also have an old SD camera editing unit, which simply allows video fade, brightness, contrast, etc. The basics really & a colour quad processor & scart switching unit. So if I can't get the TV output switched from that, I may have the option to switch it externally using some of those units. But could I also capture that back into vMix to include the video playback?

Also I plan to control all the audio externally using a stage mixer & input into the recording laptop with a Behringer UCA202 audio input adapter (which I have used for years without issues), But would that complicate things?

Am I going down the right route here? Or do I need to go back to drawing board with my concept?

Also is it possible to script vMix, for example, when switching to a specific camera, automatically fading in a title for x seconds & then fading it back out. Or any other scripting options to help automate some tasks? How about external control inputs from say a USB interface card which controls which camera is in use based on the spotlight used.

Any suggestions & input appreciated. BTW the event is scheduled for 23rd December, so need to get this config tested and going soon!

Thanks in advance.
